MIT Suffers First Loss of Season to Conference Rival Bryant, 7-4

Nov. 21, 2005

Smithfield, R.I. - The men's hockey team (3-1-2) dropped its first game of the season on Saturday night to conference rival Bryant University (5-6-2). MIT went into the third period trailing by one goal at 5-4, but Erik Brouillard and Brian Willer each tallied their second goal of the game to give Bryant a 7-4 victory. Junior Tim Studley recorded two goals and an assist for MIT in the loss.

After jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 16 seconds into the game on a goal by senior Adam Shabshelowitz, the Engineers allowed three unanswered goals and went into the second period down by two. In the second frame, MIT started quick again, getting goals from Studley and senior John Bergin in the first five minutes.

With the game tied at three and the momentum in their favor, the Engineers again failed to capitalize on the opportunity and gave up two goals in a minute and half. Studley notched his second tally of the game with 22 seconds left in the period to put MIT within striking distance to begin the final session.

Brian Willer and Erik Brouillard made sure MIT did not get another chance to tie the game and take control, as they added their second goals of the game at 17:26 and 12:30 of the third period. The Engineers were unable to take advantage of three power-play opportunities in the period, and time expired on MIT's undefeated season.

The Engineers will look to get back on track when they face off against Endicott College (6-2-0) in Beverly, Mass. on December 3. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m.
